One of the oldest flooring types known
to man, ceramic tile offers some unique properties unavailable
elsewhere in flooring. Hard, rigid, and waterproof, ceramic is the
perfect choice when dealing with conditions of high traffic, or when
your floor is susceptible to water or moisture. Ceramic is made
from clay that has been fired at high temperatures, creating a
surface that is very hard and nonporous. Installation is achieved
by setting the tiles into a bed of mortar (mud) or setting them with
mastic over a flat, firm sub-floor. The tiles are then grouted to
fill the spaces between.
Ceramic is great in bathrooms,
mudrooms, entries, and basements; rooms with obvious water and
moisture situations. They are also exceptional in rooms with
radiant heat or areas where a cool floor is desired, such as Florida
room, den/family room, patio, or porch. Because of the many
listelos and decorative accents available, custom borders and
designs are the norm rather than the exception and are easily
accomplished by a quality installer. Coordinating wall tiles are
generally available as are counter top, back splash, and other
decorative trim pieces.
Hard, cool, and durable ceramic tiles
are essential flooring elements for many areas of your home or
business.
